If you were sitting while looking longingly at your rainbow flag and thinking that pride season was over for another year, fear not! We still have two more pride events this month. First up there’s Karma Leon’s Kabaret: Late Night Pride Party (Fri 12 Aug) at Picture House Social, celebrating 50 glorious years of pride with drag, circus, comedy, tomfoolery, weirdness and crazy queer antics with a free aftershow queer disco.
Piña are also back this month for Piña is Burning #8 [Fri 12 Aug] – a sizzling, sexy pride party brought to you by the DIY queer party pioneers of Gut Level. Expect hot freaky numbers, slinky crowd pleasers and a whole load of queer euphoria. They’ll be donating a portion of their ticket proceeds to Gut Level – which gives a platform to queer/LGBTQ+, women and non-binary people who are underrepresented in the music industry – to help with their fundraising campaign for a new venue and will also be donating a portion of ticket proceeds to SAYiT Sheffield so they can continue their vital work with LGBTQ+ youth.
Sheffield drag queen Emma Maezin will be hosting her 3AM Album Launch Party (Friday 5 Aug) at Hemingways where she will be doing a live performance of the entire album. The event is free but please show your support by purchasing a virtual or physical copy of the album. Connie-Dom will be bringing their show Flashback (Fri 12 Aug) to Crookes Social Club, with some of Sheffield’s hottest drag queens taking you through the most iconic songs, movies and performers of all time. And if that is not enough drag for you, then head to Malin Bridge Inn to see the hilarious Tanya Minge [Fri 5 Aug] as she hosts her risqué games nigh featuring bum hole bingo, drinking and dancing games with naughty/adult prizes.
August means we also have a long bank holiday weekend, which kicks off on Friday night with Kink [Fri 26 Aug] at Spirit of Sheffield, an all-gender queer focussed fetish social, hosted by drag DJ Anna Kissed. Then on Saturday night we have Night Owls [Sat 27 Aug] at Sidney & Matilda: “Like a party at your friend’s house – except not in a house.” Alongside your regular Nightowls’ tune-clicker, this month Scots-Italo babe Cruella Deejay is back at the decks (laptop). The last Night Owls ran the gamut from the Cockney Rebel to ‘Cotton Eye Joe’, the Black Beauty theme to ‘Bound 2’, and you can expect a similarly eclectic pop thrill ride this bank holiday.
That’s your lot for this month, as always keep an eye on the Sheffield LGBT+ events page on Facebook www.facebook.com/sheffieldlgbtevents for updates and announcements on the latest events and news.
Until next time, love and rainbows,
Heather @HeatherPaterson x
